Lend a Hand at the Post Office Food Drive!

This year's Post Office Food Drive will take place on Saturday, May 9.

Two Ways You Can Help:

Distributing Bags Wednesday, April 30th – Monday, May 4th

Post Office Food Drive collection bags need to be distributed in neighborhoods in Northampton, Florence & Leeds between April 30th and May 4th. This task involves choosing a few streets in your neighborhood and leaving a Northampton Survival Center food collection bag at each house. The bags are printed with information about the food drive, so you do not actually need to speak with anyone, and the task can be done any time during the day or evening to fit your schedule. The distribution of these bags is crucial to the success of the food drive. We have 10,000 bags to distribute this year, and need your help! Distributing bags is a lovely way to support the NSC, and spend time volunteering with friends, family, teammates, and the like, while going for a great spring-time walk!

The Day of the Food Drive Saturday, May 9th

As the mail trucks arrive, you will help with unloading, sorting, weighing & loading food into storage. If you are unable to do heavy lifting, we can still use your help in sorting food. We can use as many volunteers as we can get that day. It’s a fun event and refreshments are provided by local businesses. We are asking people to sign-up for a 2 hour shift between 10 am and 6 pm. This event takes place rain or shine!

What is the Post Office Food Drive?

The POFD is a nationwide event, where community members leave non-perishable food donations by their mailbox. Locally, members of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 64 will pick up these donations, and deliver them to the Northampton Survival Center! Over the course of this day long event, the NSC expects to receive thousands of pounds of food. Last year, we received nearly 20,000 pounds of food!
